The lecture is intended to provide both perspective on opportunities to expand EUS practice through an understanding of its role in multidisciplinary care and various disease state applications. Additionally, endohepatology and EUS guided novel therapeutic interventions will be demonstrated through case-based videos.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Discuss EUS technology and its applications

  2. Describe the differences between EUS  fine needle aspiration vs EUS Fine needle biopsy

  3. Discuss novel frontiers in therapeutic EUS such as endohepatology, EUS guided biliary bypass, EUS guided lumen apposition, EUS guided fiducials, ablation and oncologic interventions

Faculty Bio (for website only)

Dr. Sharma has served as the founder and Director of both advanced interventional endoscopy and endoscopic oncology programs at Parkview since 2013. These programs have grown and blossomed under his leadership, increasing the spectrum of surgical endoscopy and GI oncology patients and interventions year after year.  The programs currently perform >2000 EUS, >900 ERCP, and are a regional leader in endoscopic mucosal resection, ablation and submucosal dissection.  The programs, now called Interventional Oncology & Surgical Endoscopy (IOSE), have been committed to being leaders in innovation and state of the art care.  They now serve as a tertiary referral center, and perform second opinions, complex cases, and clinical preceptorships as a center of excellence.  He has served on faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine.  Dr Sharma also currently serves as the Chair of GI oncology program and President of Parkview Cancer Institute.
