This webinar will review the current guidelines and best practice recommendations for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) through presentation of clinical cases of patients with reflux symptoms. 

 

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Discuss when a trial of PPI therapy is appropriate for patients with reflux symptoms

  2. Identify scenarios when objective testing is needed to evaluate for GERD

  3. Utilize data from reflux monitoring to guide a phenotype treatment approach for GERD

  4. Recognize the role of esophageal hypersensitivity and hypervigilance on symptom burden

Rena Yadlapati MD MSHS FACG

Dr. Yadlapati is medical director of the Center for Esophageal Diseases at UC San Diego Health and treats gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and related conditions such as laryngopharyngeal reflux, swallowing disorders, esophageal motility disorders, eosinophilic esophagitis, and Barrett's esophagus.

Dr. Yadlapati serves on the board of directors of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Institute as well as the American Foregut Society. She has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed publications, including multiple national consensus initiatives in GERD, Barrett's esophagus, and esophageal motility. Dr. Yadlapati is an editorial board member of Gastroenterology. She speaks at the regional, national and international level on personalized therapy for GERD, complications of anti-reflux surgery, phenotypes of GERD, diagnostic and therapeutic options for laryngopharyngeal disease, esophageal motility disorders, and EndoFLIP technology.
